Christmas Lunch

This has taken various forms over the years, with several enjoyable lunches taking place in the Caledonian Club with agreeable food and convivial discussion, quite often resulting in a polite request that the participants retire to the Grenadier for a few more pints and sometimes a wee.

Highlights include the “Stradivarius and Rembrandt” skit (© Tommy Cooper) and the “I’m trying to make him sick” anecdote (© Jethro) both of which have been well-received by all no matter how often told and no matter which particular punchline is used.

In recent years, alternative venues have been adopted including El Pirata, The Durrants Hotel and Café Caldesi.

Christmas Meeting

Latterly, due to general exhaustion, lunch has been novated to a gentle and either freezing cold or biblically wet 18 holes at St George’s Hill, followed by a gloriously festive club carvery and a nap.
